Ogden Exchange Building, OEX 1 & 2

At its height, the Ogden Stockyards was the fourth-largest livestock exchange in the Intermountain West, and a bustling center of commerce on the west side of Ogden City. The focal point of the site is one of the great architectural treasures of the area, the Exchange Building designed in 1930 by prolific Ogden architect Leslie S. Hodgson (Ogden High School, Ogden Municipal Building, Peery’s Egyptian Theater). The building housed the offices for the complex until the stockyards ceased operations in 1971, and since then has been left mostly vacant and in a state of decay. Drumbeat is currently designing a renovation and 25,000 SF addition to the Exchange Building, which aims to modernize the building for contemporary office use, highlight and pay homage to the original architecture, and once again elevate the structure to grand prominence in the neighborhood.

In addition to breathing new life into the Exchange Building, Drumbeat is also designing a new 18,000 SF building adjacent to the historic structure. This building will complete the underdeveloped block and anchor the currently vacuous corner of Exchange Road and Stockman Way. The new construction will feature Class-A office space while also adding to the life of the neighborhood with street level cafe amenities and a rooftop dining experience unparalleled in Ogden — once again welcoming visitors to Ogden’s west side with sweeping panoramic views of the Wasatch front.
